We’ll let you know exactly what needs fixing, give you an estimate of the cost, and let you know how long it’ll take to make things right. You’ll always get the heads up first before any work is carried out as no one likes pricey surprises.

Why a WOF is important
A WOF ensures that your vehicle meets all the required safety standards so you can have peace of mind knowing everything is safe.
What we check and inspect
We have a checklist with a wide range of vehicle functions and parts that we must check over and all of them must pass to get your WOF.
Why us instead of VTNZ?
If something is wrong with your car, we can often fix it on the spot. This means you don’t need to find a mechanic to repair your car and return for a recheck.
Don’t leave it to chance
If your vehicle doesn’t have a current WOF, you could get a fine of at least $200 or worse, the car could fail on you while driving. We will send you a reminder 2 weeks prior to your expiry date.
FAQs about WOF
A WOF is a general safety check to ensure that the vehicle you drive is safe to use on public roads. This is done periodically to ensure your safety, the safety of your passengers and the safety of other road users.
We usually get it all done for you within 45 minutes to an hour. You can wait while we work, or you can pop out and collect your vehicle later. You can use one of our courtesy cars if you book it in advance.
The WOF costs $75 inclusive, or $67.50 inclusive for AA Members. A Trailer WOF can be done for $50 inclusive ($45 for AA Members). AA Members also receive 10% discount off all services and repairs.

During a WOF inspection, we only check the safety aspects of your vehicle. It does not include checks on things like engine reliability, cooling system functionality or whether the sound system works. In other words, a car may be safe and legal to drive, but may not necessarily be reliable or have all the extras working as they should.
All modifications to a vehicle must comply with WOF regulations. This includes window tinting (as they can’t be too dark), any exhaust modifications, and lowering of suspensions. Our mechanics can explain the legal requirements to you if you have any questions or concerns.
At Johnson Automotive in Whangarei, we’re always transparent about the cost of servicing and repairs and we’ll make the process easy. We’ll keep you informed at every step.
You can pay for your service and/or car repairs with Eftpos or cash, or you can use our finance options and pay in instalments with Afterpay or Zip. If you are a commercial customer and we look after your fleet, we’ll invoice you monthly.
